It was a beautiful spring evening for Kaitlyn and Matt’s Sayen Gardens Engagement Session, filled with blooming flowers, enchanting pathways and a couple deeply in love. Although temperatures were still a little nippy, the couple really did luck out with one of the best spring blooms that I’ve seen at this beautiful location!

Sayen Gardens is a hidden gem nestled in Central Jersey. The gardens boast a stunning array of flowers and plants, creating a whimsical and romantic atmosphere perfect for all types of portrait sessions, or just an evening stroll. From vibrant tulips to delicate cherry blossoms, the colors and scents infuse the air with magic and the meticulously manicured landscapes provide an idyllic backdrop.

Sayen Gardens Engagement Session | An Unexpectedly Sweet Setup

Kaitlyn & Matt’s story began in the fall of 2020 in a truly unexpected way. Kaitlyn, an occupational therapist, was assigned to work with Matt’s grandfather, who needed some therapy to improve his strength and balance.

During their sessions, a special bond formed between Kaitlyn and Matt’s grandfather and grandmother. They welcomed Kaitlyn into their lives with open arms, treating her like a member of their own family. Mutti, Matt’s grandmother, would even leave small gestures of affection, like apples or pieces of German chocolate, for Kaitlyn when she visited.

As fate would have it, towards the end of Kaitlyn’s sessions with Matt’s grandfather he couldn’t resist playing matchmaker. He started asking Kaitlyn about her relationship status and suggested that she’d be a perfect match for his grandson. Despite Mutti’s playful objection, the spark was ignited. Sadly, Matt’s grandfather passed away in March 2021, leaving behind fond memories and an unforeseen connection.

However, their story didn’t end there. Kaitlyn remained close with Mutti and continued visiting her. Then, in May 2021, an unexpected text message arrived from none other than Matt – the afore mentioned grandson! Intrigued by the stories his grandfather had shared about Kaitlyn and touched by her help during his grandfather’s therapy sessions, Matt reached out to her. Their connection was undeniable, and they decided to meet for dinner that very night.

They headed to PJ Whelihan’s in Washington Township and spent the evening engrossed in conversation, getting to know each other. And by the end of that fateful night, they were already planning their second date and their journey together began.

Fast forward to December 2022, Kaitlyn and Matt embarked on a trip into the bustling heart of New York City to see the winter sights. Little did Kaitlyn know that Matt had something extraordinary planned for their adventure.

After lunch and a mesmerizing performance of “Wicked,” they found themselves in front of the iconic Rockefeller Tree. It was a chilly winter day, but their love radiated warmth. Seizing the perfect moment, Matt asked a friendly stranger to capture their picture. And then, with a heart full of love and excitement, he got down on one knee and proposed!

As tears of joy filled Kaitlyn’s eyes, a crowd quickly gathered around them, joining in the celebration of their love. It was a picture-perfect moment, frozen in time amidst the bustling energy of the city. Kaitlyn couldn’t believe that Matt had carried the ring in his pocket all day without her suspecting a thing. It was a proposal she’d cherish forever.
