Some love stories don’t start with grand romantic gestures. Sometimes they start in the checkout lanes at ShopRite! Shannan and Rachel met when they were both 16, working as cashiers. They’d often end up on neighboring registers, chatting through their shifts, becoming friends before either of them realized there was something even bigger growing between them.
Today they live in Tennessee, but when it came time to get married, there was never much question about where they wanted to celebrate. New Jersey is home, their families are here, and coming back for their Valenzano Winery wedding meant they could spend the day surrounded by the people who’ve watched their relationship grow from those teenage ShopRite days into the life they’ve built together.

When you’re the kind of couple who feels most at home surrounded by nature, it’s easy to see why Valenzano Winery was the perfect fit for their wedding. The beautiful vineyard setting gave Shannan and Rachel everything they were looking for: gorgeous scenery, an outdoor feel, and a relaxed atmosphere where everyone could simply enjoy being together. More than anything, they wanted a wedding that felt fun, without all the unnecessary stress. Their vision was to spend the day surrounded by the people they love most, celebrate their marriage, and dance the night away. And those are exactly the kind of weddings I love documenting!

One proposal simply wasn’t enough for these two! Rachel proposed first during one of their Valentine’s Day trips to Atlantic City before Shannan left for the police academy. Afterward, Shannan’s mom and sister surprised them to celebrate, making an already emotional day even more unforgettable.
Not long after, Shannan decided it was Rachel’s turn. She drove home from the academy for the weekend, took Rachel out to dinner in Long Beach Island, then surprised her with a cozy setup on the beach complete with Rachel’s favorite snacks and chocolate-covered strawberries. While Rachel thought it was just the two of them, one of her childhood friends was secretly tucked away in the dunes photographing the proposal.

One of my favorite parts of the day was that Shannan’s brother officiated the ceremony. There are so many ways couples can personalize a wedding, but this is the kind of thing that always sticks with me. Years from now, Shannan and Rachel might not remember what color the napkins were, but they will remember the people who stood beside them and how the ceremony felt. That’s why I always encourage couples to make decisions that actually mean something to them instead of choosing things simply because they’re “what you’re supposed to do.”

If I had to sum up Shannan and Rachel’s Valenzano Winery wedding in one word, it would be joyful. Their focus was on spending quality time with family, celebrating with lifelong friends, and making memories together. They wanted to actually experience the wedding they’d spent so much time planning. There was so much laughter throughout the day, and once the dancing started, everyone was ready to celebrate.

If you’re planning your own Valenzano Winery wedding, I can’t recommend this venue enough if you’re looking for beautiful scenery, a relaxed atmosphere, and a place where your guests can truly enjoy the day. And if you’re the kind of couple who’d rather spend your wedding making memories than standing in awkward poses for hours… I have a feeling we’d get along really well. Let’s grab a drink and see if we’re the right fit!
